Poland's Constitutional Court ruled on Thursday that parts of the EU treaty are not compatible with Poland's constitution.

- I asked if it really is the case that you seriously mean that the EU's commitment in terms of fundamental values, democracy, fair freedom and so on - that Polish law should apply before EU law, says Hans Dahlgren and continues:

- Then he means (Poland's EU Minister, editor's note) that it is only about the judiciary.

I mean, that's bad enough.

Changes in the judiciary

Poland has made changes to the judiciary that the European Commission considers to be contrary to EU law.

- A disciplinary chamber has been set up so that you can gag some judges, move certain judges.

The retirement age for some judges has been changed to get rid of those who are unpleasant, says Dahlgren.

May be fine

If Poland does not change, there could be daily fines of up to one million euros a day.

- We will see, it is the European Court of Justice that decides.

But it is clear, the situation has not become easier to resolve after the decision that came on Thursday.
