October 10, 2021 Accidents at work are "a social wound that cannot be solved, but unfortunately it is always increasing and becomes excruciating every time we learn, as in recent weeks, daily and dramatic updates of accidents that have occurred". This was written by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in the message sent to the president of the National Association of Mutilated and Disabled Workers, Zoello Forni, on the occasion of the National Day for the Victims of Accidents at Work "who - writes the Head of State - like every year, it commemorates those who have lost their lives or have suffered injuries while carrying out their work ".

Mattarella recalls that "the Constitution in art. 4 'recognizes the right to work for all citizens and promotes the conditions that make this right effective.' In order for this right to be effectively guaranteed, a democratic state must allow everyone to carry out their own working activity, protecting their health and ensuring that they are carried out in total safety. The tragedies we are witnessing relentlessly are intolerable and must find an end, strengthening the culture of legality and prevention. The laws are there and must be applied with inflexibility " .

"The victims of accidents at work are people who leave their homes with plans for the future and activities aimed at their loved ones. The workplace must be the place to return to. Always. I wish all participants a fruitful and constructive reflection. to this important appointment, so that the success of this Day represents a push for joint action by the institutions to guarantee the right to work in a healthy and safe environment ", concludes the President of the Republic.
