Libya reveals the circumstances of the escape of hundreds of migrants in Ghout al-Shaal, Tripoli

The Libyan Ministry of Interior issued a statement today, Saturday, about the incident of hundreds of illegal immigrants escaping from the Gathering and Return Center in Ghout al-Shaal in the capital, Tripoli.

The ministry said in its statement: "What happened yesterday, Friday, in one of the shelters in Tripoli, and the stampede and escape of hundreds of detainees, caused the death of an immigrant and the injury of several others, in addition to a number of police personnel."

The ministry added: "What happened provoked a state of chaos and panic that afflicted the residents of the area, which necessitated the intervention of the police to control the situation. The security operation was carried out professionally and without the use of excessive force."

The ministry affirmed: "committed to its professional premises, security priorities, moral and legal responsibility, and respect for human rights in dealing with the file of illegal immigrants and the repercussions of their illegal presence on the country's national security and the regional environment."

The ministry stressed that it will not be lenient under any circumstances in dealing with outlaws and those who tamper with the security and stability of the country and those involved with illegal immigration gangs, organized crime, prostitution, drugs and theft.

The ministry explained: “This is what prompted the ministry earlier to launch an intense security campaign against one of the biggest dens of crime, corruption and drug trafficking, in which organized crime gangs of illegal immigrants take a stronghold and a haven, in the Gerfaresh area in Tripoli, which resulted in the arrest of hundreds of immigrants. and hundreds of violations, violations and illegal acts, and they were handed over to collection and return centers in preparation for their deportation outside the country.”

The ministry called on relevant international organizations to assist in the voluntary return and deportation of migrants as soon as possible.
