Yesterday, German media published parts of the secretly recorded video from Ibiza.

In the clip, which was recorded before the 2017 parliamentary elections, Strache discusses investments with a woman who pretends to be related to a Russian oligarch.

In the film, they talk about how the woman could take control of the evening newspaper Krone, which would help Strache win the 2017 election.

In the film clip, Strache is also said to say: "With this magazine you are among the ten most powerful in Austria" and "Journalists are in any case the biggest whores on the planet".

A "political assassination"

Heinz-Christian Strache has since apologized and announced his resignation at a press conference on Saturday.

He blamed his statements on his drinking, but also called the incident a "political assassination".

It is still unclear who set up the hidden cameras in the villa and recorded Heinz-Christian Strache.
