Cameras installed in the toilets of Ikea employees in England

A traumatic discovery.

In Peterborough, England (UK), workers at an Ikea distribution center discovered that CCTV cameras had been installed in their locker rooms and toilets.

According to the first elements of this case, unveiled by

, the cameras would have been installed in 2015. Asked about the subject, Ikea did not however specify whether the devices were capable of filming inside the bathroom.

Cameras removed from the site

"We understand that the discovery of these cameras can be worrying," the Swedish furniture company told the BBC, adding that it was just a matter of "maintaining a safe working environment for all colleagues" .

Faced with the concern of employees, Ikea added that all the cameras had been removed from the privacy areas.

This case is reminiscent of the one that had been brought to light in France during the year 2021. It appeared that Ikea was collecting personal data on its employees by means of police files.

The company was fined a million euros last June.
