The Dubai Health Authority reported that donating blood reduces the chances of heart and brain clots, and helps activate bone marrow cells. , to support accident victims and people with diseases that require continuous blood transfusion.The Director of the Department of Laboratories and Genetics at the Dubai Health Authority, Dr. Hussein Al-Samt, revealed to "Emirates Today" that the total participants in the 10th cycle of the "My blood is for my country" campaign, since It was launched last June, so far, it has reached 12,100 donors, while the number of government agencies participating in the campaign has increased to 41 institutions, and coordination with new institutions is underway to implement special campaigns soon.

He stated that the number of blood units drawn from donors amounted to 11,800 units, noting that some donors are rejected for health reasons, or for not meeting the conditions for donation. He pointed out that 68% of registered donors donate for the first time.

Males received the highest percentage of donation by 88.8%, compared to 11.1% for females, while the age group between 25 and 45 years topped the list of donors.

Dr. Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Center at the Dubai Health Authority, confirmed that the donation has many health benefits, most notably that it helps prevent many diseases, such as heart and stroke, as well as works to regenerate bone marrow cells.

She stated that a single blood unit can save the lives of three people, whose health condition requires a blood transfusion, calling on community members, citizens and residents, to participate in the campaign, to provide the largest amount of blood, to save lives.

The "My Blood for My Country" campaign was launched in its first session in 2012, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

His Highness was the first to donate blood at the moment of the campaign’s launch, which contributed to its success and encouraged community members to participate in it, especially after His Highness emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying that “blood donation is the best gift that a citizen and resident can give, as an expression of love for the homeland, especially since there is Sick and injured need every drop of blood.”
