The Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) accident and traffic crime brigade opened an investigation after an incident that occurred on Sunday in the city center.
A motorist collided with several vehicles rue du Maréchal-Joffre, while a police patrol intervened for a control around 6:40 am, reports 76actu.
Officials had just identified a scooter running without headlights and had decided to stop its driver.
It was then that a driver burst in, overtaking the police vehicle.
The motorist then crashed into a parked car before hitting the scooter.

The man on the two-wheeler was transferred to hospital with wrist pain.
During his check-up, he tested negative for alcohol and narcotics.
In his escape, the driver hit two other parked cars and took the direction of rue Aristide-Briand.
This Tuesday, he had still not been identified by investigators.
They are therefore looking for the man who was driving a small black city car.
