In a post on his own account, Mark Zuckerberg shares his thoughts after the turbulent week that has passed.

He writes, among other things, that he does not get together many of the statements that have been made and does not recognize the picture painted by the company.

"At the heart of these accusations is the idea that we prioritize profit over security and well-being.

That is simply not true. ”

Criticism from whistleblowers

On Tuesday, a hearing was held by a committee in the US Senate with the whistleblower Frances Haugen.

She has been employed by Facebook and has warned that the company is unable to curb hatred and misinformation on its platforms.

Before she quit, she secretly copied tens of thousands of pages of internal material to prove what she believed to be Facebook's lies.

- Today, Facebook is destroying our society and is behind ethnic violence throughout the world, she says in a high-profile interview with CBS 60 Minutes.

Haugen also believes that the company's leadership knows how to make Facebook and the image platform Instagram more secure, but that they do not make the necessary changes because they prioritize their "astronomical gains".

Asks questions

Zuckerberg writes in his post that many of the accusations that have been made against the company simply do not go together for him.

"If we did not care about fighting harmful content, why would we hire so many more people who do this than any other company in our field - even those that are bigger than us?", Asks Facebook- the founder.

"And if social media was as responsible for polarizing society as some claim, then why do we see polarization increase in the United States while it remains flat or declines in many countries with equal use of social media around the world?" He continues.
