"As activities to identify variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus intensify at the national and supranational levels, including the expansion of opportunities for genome sequencing, the number of countries, regions and territories reporting on the availability of variants of concern continues to increase," the WHO cites TASS.

It is noted that reports on the presence of a delta option came from 192 countries, while a week earlier it was about 187 states.

The delta strain has been known to specialists since October 2020 after its discovery in India.

Earlier, Ivan Konovalov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases in Children of the Pediatric Faculty of the Russian National Research Medical University named after Pirogov, spoke about the details of the delta coronavirus strain.
