The release of the findings of the Sauvé report on Tuesday morning caused an explosion within the Church.

A new sequence is now opening, with several projects discussed and then voted on, in order to put an end to the abuses observed by the commission which investigated the extent of child crime.

DECRYPTION

"Until redemption eventually passes through you someday, the best you would have to do is still shut up and begin to execute yourself with ardor and haste."

This is how François Devaux, founder of the structure "La Parole Libérée", spoke on Tuesday after the publication of the conclusions of the report of the commission of inquiry into child crime in the Church, said Sauvé report.

And while 330,000 victims have been abused by priests, religious and lay Catholics, no less than 45 recommendations have been established in this report, which constitutes a working basis.

Saved Report: "There will be a before and an after" for the Church

Creation of a national canonical criminal court?

Concretely, what will the Church do? Bishops and religious have already launched a number of projects. On the issue of financial compensation, a fund of 5 million euros has been created. Jean-Marc Sauvé asked that it not be a lump sum, but that it be adapted to the experience of each victim. The Church is expected to announce shortly the composition of an independent body which will allocate individualized aid.

The other project already underway concerns the creation of a national canonical criminal court.

This is one of the recommendations of the report, because until now each diocese had its own tribunal.

It was the bishop who had both the power to appoint judges and who was responsible for applying the sentences of his convicted priests.

The conference of bishops of France is awaiting the green light from Rome.

Finally, there may be a whole series of other projects that will be discussed and then voted on within a month at the assembly of bishops and men and women religious.
