The Sauvé Commission revealed on Tuesday the extent of sexual violence against minors by priests and religious in the Catholic Church in France.

The report puts forward certain avenues for combating this violence.

In particular the lifting, in certain cases, of the secrecy of the confession.

There will be a before and an after for the Catholic Church in France.

Before: the 216,000 minors victims of priests and religious since the 1950s. Afterwards, these are the 45 recommendations formulated in the Sauvé report.

Among them: the lifting of the secrecy of confession in the event of sexual violence.

A revolution that deserves reflection for the Archbishop of Lyon, Monsignor Olivier de Germay.

"We must not exclude this question there"

"For the moment, it seems complicated to me, but I admit that while listening to Mr. Sauvé, I said to myself that this question should not be excluded", explains the prelate at the microphone of Europe 1. "We must think about it. It is true that for us, the secret of confession is something absolute. In a society, it is very important to have places where it is sure that whatever one says, it will not come out. But now, given the gravity of the facts, me, personally, I think it is worth thinking about it. "

It is therefore a taboo which is now addressed by ecclesiastical leaders.

Pope Francis is expected to speak on this subject this Wednesday morning on the sidelines at the end of the traditional Wednesday audience with the faithful in Rome.
