-It is a little worrying that at the age of 80 and older we see slightly more cases.

It is not a continuous trend at present, but it is an observation, says infection control doctor Eva Melander at Region Skåne's press conference.

It is both the elderly who live in special housing and in their own homes who are infected, Melander states.

- We are a little worried about the elderly, who are the most fragile.

There, care and nursing staff have a great responsibility to get vaccinated.

It is the best protection for oneself and one's surroundings, says Eva Melander.

In the first stage, a third dose of vaccine will be offered to those who have a weakened immune system or are over 80 years old.

12-15 are vaccinated at school

During week 41 and week 42, all 67,000 children between the ages of 12 and 15 will be offered vaccines at school.

The health centers come out on site and provide syringes.

- The schools distribute and the communication with the guardians and the region handles the vaccinations, says Maria Landgren, vaccine coordinator.

Just over 76 percent of the population over the age of 16 in Skåne have been vaccinated.

Just over 80 percent have taken a first vaccine dose.

- But the situation is fragile.

We see, for example, that Stockholm gets an increase in the number of admissions.

The pandemic is not over, says Skåne's healthcare director Pia Lundbom.
