The level of tolerance for when you are considered to have a sick child who cannot be in preschool has dropped according to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency's analysis.

In the second week of September, week 36, the authority received close to 136,000 applications for care of a sick child, vab.

This is the largest number of applications so far this year.

The record was broken in mid-March last year with almost 192,000 applications during week 12.

"Pressing parents and colleagues"

Linda Jerneck is a lead writer at Expressen and has written the debate article "Let the snoring kids in preschool again".

- Nobody wants you to send sick children to preschool, but now there are many who demand that you stay at home for two days without symptoms.

This means that there will be many more baby days.

The consequence of the VAB days will be increased pressure on the parents and their work colleagues, who will then have more to do in the workplace, according to Jerneck.

Two asymptomatic days

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency's recommendations, children should stay at home until they are completely healthy.

However, if the children have only mild symptoms, they can return to preschool after seven days.

In case of symptoms, the child should stay at home for two days completely without symptoms.

At the same time, however, the authority emphasizes that children often have mild problems that are not signs of covid.

In the case of occasional coughing, the child needs to stay at home, according to the recommendations.

"Got so much better"

Eva Lindström, preschool teacher and columnist for the magazine Läraren, does not want to go back to what it was like before the pandemic recommendations.

- It has gotten so much better.

We have assumed that it has been quite normal to take care of quite sick children and children with symptoms.

The higher threshold for sending children to preschool has had a positive impact on the children in particular, but also the preschool teachers and parents, she believes.

- If you are going to have snotty children at preschool, we preschool teachers also become snotty and then there is no staff to leave the children to.

- I get quite provoked by the discussion that we send children home without symptoms, that we would send children home "just to".

Why would we send children to the preschool who do not have symptoms?
