President of the United Nations General Assembly: Expo 2020 Dubai embodies a better tomorrow

Abdullah Shahid, President of the United Nations General Assembly and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, joined government institutions, change makers and climate leaders from around the world at Expo 2020 Dubai for the second day of Climate and Biodiversity Week at the international event.

He said: "I came to the United Nations promising a presidency full of hope, to give the peoples of the world hope that we will have a better tomorrow. We have the energy, the capacity, and we all agree in our quest for a better tomorrow.. Expo 2020 represents that and embodies it... showing a country with a vision." And he cares about the planet as well as his interest in science and technologies, as the UAE has emerged as a beacon of hope, which is the best thing that can happen to humanity. With the use of vaccines and appropriate precautionary measures, we can overcome the “Corona” pandemic.

On the importance of the presence of the United Nations at Expo 2020, he said: "The United Nations brings countries together.. It is the global body where large and small countries, rich and poor countries can make their voices heard.. Where small island developing states that live on the front line with Climate disasters make their voice heard as the United Nations Center provides the opportunity to represent the global community and humanity.. Here lives a hopeful presidency at the United Nations Center.”

He added: "We need to make sure that we invest more.. We were able to find a vaccine and now we have to make sure that everyone gets the vaccine, regardless of their nationalities.. I believe that humanity has the ability to supply the entire world with a vaccine by the end of 2022.. We will hold a meeting Special Assembly of the United Nations in January to this end.

He stated that Climate and Biodiversity Week is part of the Man and Planet Program, which includes an exceptional agenda of events, experiments, thought leadership and public talks to be held over the six months of Expo 2020, with the aim of finding solutions to some of the most pressing problems facing our world.

He said that Expo 2020 Dubai invites visitors from all over the world to create a new world together, until March 31, 2022, in six months of celebration of human genius, innovation, progress and culture.
