• The explosion occurred just before 05 in an apartment building in Annedal in central Gothenburg and caused fires in three stairwells.

    Hundreds of people were evacuated.

  •  For over three hours, the rescue service must have worked to get control of the fire, the heavy smoke development and to get the building evacuated.

  • A total of 16 people have been taken to hospital.

Four people are judged to be seriously injured, three of them are being cared for on IVA.

Among the slightly injured is a child aged ten.

One of the injured is a firefighter who participated in the extinguishing work.

  • Whether the explosion should have occurred inside or outside the house is unclear because the major damage to the building makes it difficult to determine.

The police technical investigation will have to answer that question.

  • According to the police, there is no known threat against anyone living in the building.

  • Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Minister of the Interior Mikael Damberg held a press conference on Tuesday where the Prime Minister said, among other things, that "Gothenburg should feel that it has the support of the whole country".

  • A report of general destruction has been made and the police have initiated a so-called special event.
