Investigative Committee opened a case against Navalny and other persons on the creation of an extremist community

This is stated in a message on the website of the UK.

It is noted that the case was initiated under Part 1 of Art.

282.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (creation and management of an extremist community) against A. Navalny, L. Volkov, I. Zhdanov and other persons, and under Part 2 of Art.

282.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (participation in an extremist community) against L. Sobol, G. Alburov, R. Shaveddinov, V. Gimadi, P. Zelensky, R. Mulyukov and others.

“To ensure the activities of the extremist community, including its financing, as well as to create conditions for committing crimes of an extremist orientation, to attract new participants, the organizers established 8 non-profit organizations - foundations and commercial organizations, which were structural divisions of the community,” the website says.

In order to expand the scope of criminal activity in 2017, the public movement “Navalny Headquarters” * was created to carry out community activities in 37 regions of Russia.

In early August, the Russian Ministry of Justice included the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) **, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens' Rights (FZPG) *** and the Navalny Headquarters public movement in the list of banned organizations. 

Earlier, a court decision on the recognition of them as extremist came into force.

* The organization is recognized as extremist, its activities are prohibited on the territory of Russia by the decision of the Moscow City Court of 06/09/2021.

** The Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) is included in the register of NPOs performing the functions of a foreign agent by the decision of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation dated 09.10.2019.

The organization was recognized as extremist, its activities were prohibited on the territory of Russia by the decision of the Moscow City Court of 06/09/2021
