• The new Antipode opened its doors on Monday after a construction site that accumulated glitches.

  • This new equipment will provide a hall with a capacity of 900 seats which was sorely lacking in Rennes.

  • The equipment also houses recording studios, a club, a library and many rooms for associative activities in the neighborhood.

This is the gauge that Rennes lacked. Often presented as a dynamic city in terms of music, the Breton capital has long suffered from a proven lack of a medium-sized concert hall that can accommodate a thousand people. This is now the case. Long confined to a capacity of 400 seats, the Antipode room moved at the end of the summer to move into its new premises at the start of the school year. A beautiful setting offering two rooms: one with 900 seats and the other in a club version with 250 seats.

Under construction since 2017, the building opened its doors to its first occupants on Monday. But he is not yet ready to host his first concerts and will have to wait until October 8 to see a concert with a "test" evening and the arrival of Lucie Antunes (free on reservation) to test the acoustics of the place. As for the official inauguration, it will take place on the weekend of October 23 and 24. Finally, say the regulars, who were desperate to see the Antipode leave Cleunay to move to La Courrouze.

Imagined almost ten years ago, the construction of this new 4,900 mÂČ building first suffered from the difficulties of the company responsible for the structural work and its dispute with the metropolis which was piloting the site.

Then, it is the health crisis which came to plague the provisional schedule of this site estimated at nearly 20 million euros.

Built above metro line B, the delivery of which is also slow to be finalized, the building was to be completed in early 2019. For the teams, it took two and a half more years, but the essentials are there.

Yoga, theater and magic ...

This Monday, the room which also serves as MJC and neighborhood library saw all the expression activities launch.

Theater, dance, music, yoga, plastic arts and even new activities such as an introduction to magic or animated cinema for children are now offered at the corner of boulevards Jules Maniez and from Guérinais.
