September 28, 2021 Over 220 female judges in Afghanistan live in hiding in terror for fear of retaliation by the Taliban. Six of them report it to the BBC, informing them anonymously to protect them.



These are important figures in the defense of women's rights who in recent years have condemned hundreds of men for rape, violence and murder, but after the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan many of the convicts were released and the judges began death threats to arrive.  



Mission accomplished in Kabul for assessed EU presence


"There has already been an" EU exploratory mission in Kabul "and now assessments will be made" also from the point of view of security, to decide whether there is the possibility of establishing a joint presence there. A sort of antenna for humanitarian aid and evacuations, which does not involve any recognition of the Taliban. EU sources explain this, underlining: "The question is not whether we must be present in Afghanistan, but how we can do it. If the country collapses, we will all pay the consequences. Nobody wants to rush to a recognition of the Taliban, we must face them on the basis of to principles, but in a pragmatic way ". 



The banking system is close to collapse


The Afghan banking system is close to collapse.

This is the alarm raised to the BBC by the head of one of the largest credit institutions in the country.

Syed Moosa Kaleem Al-Falahi, chief executive of the Islamic Bank of Afghanistan, said the country's financial sector was in the grip of an "existential crisis" due to the panic that has spread among customers.

"There are huge withdrawals going on right now," he said, explaining that "most banks don't work and don't provide full services."
