• Dialogue Nicolás Maduro sabotages negotiations with the opposition in Mexico

  • Venezuela Nazi torture and judges to persecute the rivals of Nicolás Maduro

The new round of negotiations between the Nicolás Maduro regime and the democratic opposition has been fraught with problems. Although it should have been resumed on Friday, the representatives of Chavismo did not attend the meeting and it was not until this Monday that the parties met again, after resolving several differences, sources told EL MUNDO.

Chavismo did not attend Friday's meetings in Mexico City to protest the statements of the Prime Minister of Norway,

Erna Solberg

, at the United Nations General Assembly, where he expressed concern about human rights violations in Venezuela. .

"The reduction of democracy and respect for human rights must be something of concern to us, Mr. Secretary,

We have seen serious human rights violations

in many parts of the world, in Venezuela, the atrocities of the Tigray conflict, the humanitarian human rights situation that degenerates in Myanmar, "said Solberg.

Jorge Rodríguez, head of Maduro's delegates, confirmed in Mexico that Solberg's intervention

affected compliance with the guidelines

acquired in the negotiation, but he assured that it was nothing more than an "impasse" that was later resolved.

"Venezuela requested that the facts mentioned in an intervention in the United Nations General Assembly be clarified," Rodríguez said at a press conference.

"We have passed the page in the impasse that was presented and we will continue working with all the intensity," added the president of the Chavista National Assembly.

Norway, mediator of the process, published a statement in which it reiterated its commitment to continue its work as an

impartial facilitator,

and emphasized that the speech at the United Nations "should not be interpreted as inconsistent with that."

"Our role depends on the full trust of the parties," the Norwegian statement added.

Impartial justice

The parties arrived this Monday at 11:00 am at the hotel where they usually meet in Mexico City to begin the meetings of this new round. It is not clear if the process will take more days due to the delay.

In the meetings, the sources said, the discussion will begin on a

reform of the Venezuelan judicial system,

totally controlled by Maduro. The opposition has insisted that any process of transition to democracy must begin with a reinstitutionalization of the country, which should not focus solely on greater electoral guarantees.

"Here we are to build the justice system. Venezuela is a country with

a kidnapped justice,

that persecutes and imprisons dissent and promotes impunity. Rescuing it is a fundamental requirement to regain our rights, to return to Venezuelans the power to choose and regain democracy, "the opposition's Unitary Platform said in a statement on Friday.

The opposition will also seek to advance in the constitution of a Mesa de Social Care to promote

programs for child nutrition, transplants and vaccination

against the coronavirus in Venezuela, one of the first partial agreements that had been reached in the round of negotiations that ended on September 6.

Chavismo has insisted on its intention to incorporate businessman Alex Saab, accused of being Maduro's front man, as one of his representatives in the negotiation, something unlikely since Saab is imprisoned in Cape Verde, awaiting his extradition to the United States. where you will face money laundering charges.

Jorge Rodríguez insisted during the weekend in Mexico that Saab is a "full member" of his delegation.
