"The Secretary General welcomes the resumption of direct dialogue at the ministerial level ... and hopes that these efforts will continue," the press service of the Secretary General's office quoted Interfax as saying.
He also added that these efforts will be part of a broader dialogue to achieve a sustainable peace settlement.
Earlier, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan held talks at the UN General Assembly.
Earlier Guterres held talks with representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
