It was in mid-March that SVT News and Assignment review together with the German public service channel ZDF and Indian Confluence Media published details about extensive bribery corruption in connection with Scania's bus and truck business in India.

SVT was also able to reveal that in November 2016, Scania delivered an exclusive, specially designed bus to a company with connections to India's influential Minister of Transport, Nitin Gadkari's family.

The bus was destined for his daughter's wedding a few weeks later.

Scania's CEO Henrik Henriksson, who was replaced as Scania's CEO by Christian Levin at the beginning of May this year, has confirmed the deal in an interview with SVT.

According to Scania's internal audit, the Scania bus provided a financial benefit for the Minister.

Senior executives knew about the deal

In May, SVT Nyheter revealed that several senior executives within the Scania Group were aware of the sensitive bus deal with India's Minister of Transport in 2015 and 2016. During the same period, both Henrik Henriksson and Christian Levin sat on the board of Scania's Indian companies.

According to Johan Lindmark, the suspicion is about what is internationally called "foreign bribery", ie when a company in one country bribes politicians or officials in another country.

The Public Prosecutor's Office has been in contact with India, but so far no formal demands have been made for international legal aid.

- We have been in contact with Scania and they have provided the information and material we requested, says Johan Lindmark.

Do not comment

Scania's press manager Karin Hallstan tells SVT that the company is cooperating "fully" with the prosecutor and that it has handed over the internal investigations Scania has conducted on the business in India.

When asked if Scania's former CEO Henrik Henriksson has been questioned, she says that she can not comment on which "conversations" have taken place.
