The new Afghan government has restarted the Islam Qala crossing, which links the Herat region with Iran and is the main gateway for commercial imports, at a time when the Taliban movement affirmed its desire to establish relations with Washington and the rest of the world on the condition of mutual respect.

Al-Jazeera correspondent from the crossing, Ihab Al-Aqdi, said that hundreds of Afghans crossed today, Monday, towards their country, after security was established and the crossing was opened, and that there is a transit movement towards Iran for those who hold the required documents.

He added that there is a heavy commercial truck movement between the two countries, and this crossing constitutes a basic income for the Afghan government, as it was estimated at $60 million and decreased with the Corona crisis to between $30 and $40 million.

The reporter pointed out the strict security measures at the borders on both sides.

The volume of Iranian exports to Afghanistan is estimated at 3.5 billion dollars annually.

No letter to the Taliban

Internationally, the United Nations decided that the representative of the Taliban would not deliver a speech on behalf of the movement, on the last day of the speeches of the heads of state at the United Nations General Assembly.

The Taliban chose an ambassador to replace the Afghan representative, Ghulam Ishaq Zai, who was appointed by former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and asked him to give a speech, but the ambassador himself - who asked not to be named - said that they sent their request too late, as quoted by the French Press Agency.

On the other hand, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of Afghanistan Abdul Salam Hanafi said that the world should recognize the government formed by the Taliban if it wants to eradicate drugs and terrorism, pointing to the government's desire to establish relations with the United States.

Hanafi stressed - in an interview with Al Jazeera - that the Afghan caretaker government wants to establish relations with Washington and the rest of the world on the condition of mutual respect.

On relations with China, Hanafy expressed his hope that Beijing will play an important role in Afghanistan due to its permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

During the interview, Hanafi praised Qatar's role in Afghan reconciliation, expressing his hope that Doha would continue its humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

On the seventh of this September, the Taliban announced the formation of the first government in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of foreign forces. Its spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said that it was formed to conduct business, and that its function is to get out of the current state of the country and seek international and regional recognition for the new era of the Taliban.

On the ground, a government security source reported that an explosive device exploded south of the city of Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan.

The city of Jalalabad is witnessing continuous bombings, the latest of which was last Saturday, when two security personnel were killed and 4 wounded, in addition to two civilians, in the explosion of an explosive device in the city.

The Islamic State claimed a series of bombings about a week ago, and said that it had killed or wounded more than 35 Taliban fighters.
