According to the patient injury report from the health service, the man was seriously injured but his condition should now be stable and he remains in the hospital for observation.
The man is said to have told the police that he received the injuries at a party.
A report of aggravated assault has been made, but at present no one is in custody.
The police will investigate the incident further with, among other things, questioning of witnesses.
