The neck to neck announced in recent days is confirmed at the exit of the ballot box.

According to the first estimates made at the end of

this voting day

, the Christian Democrats of the CDU / CSU and the Social Democrats of the SPD are credited with 25% of the vote.

This makes a roughly similar weight in terms of the number of seats in Parliament.

This means that both parties will have an option to stay in power and to form a coalition.

Conservative Armin Laschet and Social Democrat Olaf Scholz can therefore both become chancellors in the coming weeks or months.

The Greens, who had lost ground in the polls since the spring, come in third place, with 15% of the vote.

It's a step back from what they hoped for.

But it is a great success compared to the 8.9% that they had garnered during the last legislative elections in 2017. It should also be noted the good score of the liberals who will undoubtedly be the kingmakers during the constitution of 'a future coalition.

The far-right AfD party is down 1.5 points compared to 2017. The left-wing party Die Linke is just 5%, the score needed to be represented in the Bundestag.
