No clear winner in the legislative elections held this Sunday in Germany, according to exit polls released by local media at the close of polling stations.

The differences between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the conservative bloc formed by the Christian Democratic Union and the Bavarian Social Christian Union (CSU) are so minimal that only the vote count will reveal the winning party.

German media projections give the SPD 25% and the CDU-CSU, likewise, 25%.

The Greens would get 15% of the vote, the FDP Liberals 11% and Die Linke (The Left) 5%.

would maintain its positions compared to the elections of four years ago,

with 11%.

The absence of a clear winner was an announced chronicle.

After six weeks leading the polls, the SPD saw its lead diminish down the stretch.

The latest polls gave the SPD 26% of the support and the CDU-CSU 25%.

The difference was only one point, even below the margin of error that is introduced in surveys.

The reliability of German media exit polls is traditionally very accurate, so large variations are not to be expected. Added to this is that both the CDU-CSU and the SPD have announced that the party with the most votes does not necessarily have to be the one who tries to form majorities first, so that,

in the absence of a clear winner, the negotiations that are now being opened will be especially complex and on all fronts

.

The German Magna Carta does not set deadlines for these negotiations, which could take months.

However, there is already a date for the start of the new legislature.

The council of older deputies of the Bundestag has set October 26 for the constitution of the Legislative.

October 26 is the deadline for the first session of the elected deputies, since, according to the Constitution, the new Parliament must be constituted within 30 days of the elections.
