Two civilians and members of the armed Syrian opposition were killed in raids launched by Russian warplanes in the Afrin area in the northern countryside of Aleppo, in continuation of the military escalation in the area covered by the ceasefire.

Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted local sources as saying that other civilians were wounded as a result of the Russian raids that targeted the village of Barad in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo, adding that the planes also raided the towns of Baslahaya and Jalbal, which resulted in destruction and material damage.

Clashes also took place between the armed opposition and the forces of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad on the outskirts of the town of Tadef, south of the city of al-Bab in the countryside of Aleppo, but they did not result in a change in the map of control.

In Idlib, Al-Jazeera correspondent said that Russian warplanes launched raids on the outskirts of the town of Kansafra in the southern countryside of Idlib, without causing any casualties.

In recent weeks, the regime forces have resorted to artillery shelling targeting Jabal al-Zawiya, and the areas adjacent to their control area in the western countryside of Aleppo.

Russian warplanes have also intensively targeted opposition forces’ positions in Jabal al-Zawiya as well, and in the depths of Idlib governorate.

It is noteworthy that northwestern Syria is witnessing a continuous military escalation by the Syrian regime forces, although the area is covered by the cease-fire agreement between Russia and Turkey.

This escalation comes ahead of the Russian-Turkish summit in Moscow, which Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi is expected to join, at the end of this month.
