Ladies and gentlemen, leaders, hello everyone!
I am Situ Jianguo and I am from the United Kingdom. I have been in China for 14 years. In fact, it has been 15 years now.
Now I am shooting a show called "Situ Jianguo Show", which uses British humor to tell Chinese stories.
I have witnessed China’s anti-epidemic measures in the past two years, but today I’m not here to tell you how good China’s anti-epidemic measures are, because we already know them.
Today I want to share how my program tells the story of China during the epidemic.
There are still many foreigners who don’t know much about China, so I hope that through my video, foreigners who have never been to China can see the situation in China in an all-round and objective way. The same side.
To be honest, foreign audiences’ impressions of Chinese media are biased and not very humorous, but I believe that humor is a power.
How can foreign audiences see the situation in China comprehensively and objectively?
My idea is very simple. No matter where I go, I must interact with the people and show everyone the most down-to-earth situation.
Nowadays, many foreigners in China make videos, but most foreign bloggers tell their own stories, what are they doing in life, how is their life, and what are their opinions.
But to be honest, I think my stories are not that important. The stories of the people are what I want to hear and understand. Their stories also represent the stories of China.
As a host, my job is to introduce their stories as simply as possible and use my humor to attract attention.
The best way to face the epidemic is to let foreign audiences know how China handles the epidemic, rather than comparing the policies of different countries.
I just need to show you the daily life of the people, chat, joke, interact with the people, and experience their lives.
When I resumed work and production, I went to Yanqing, Beijing, wore a cute hat, and accompanied the farmers.
Later, I went to a small village called Yuying Village in Luanping County, Hebei Province. I went there twice and recorded changes in the village and the villagers, and then I performed a square dance with the village's aunt that night.
I also worked as an assistant to the head of a river in Zhejiang, and experienced working as an ecological forest ranger in a desert in Gansu, so that foreign audiences can see how China understands the sentence: green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains.
I also went to Liangshan, Sichuan, took the poverty alleviation train with the students and locals, helped them move goods, and then joked with the students.
I also went to Wuhan and took photos of how the city recovered a year after I learned about it. I talked to some people in Wuhan about their lives.
I also went to Xinjiang to chat with employees in a roasted naan factory, with cotton farmers in the cotton fields, and with children on the roadside in Hotan. I captured the real situation in Xinjiang.
I just came back from Tibet and I photographed many aid projects there. I also took the train and walked the Lalin Railway to talk to the passengers about their feelings.
You may think that what I just mentioned has nothing to do with the epidemic.
But I think in the epidemic, all topics are related to the epidemic.
The global epidemic is not over yet. Through my videos, viewers can see that China’s development and progress are still continuing. The work of improving people’s lives across the country has not stopped, poverty alleviation and prosperity have not stopped, ecological protection has not stopped, not because I am directly facing the camera. I said that because I took the photo and everyone can see it.
So I think my job is very meaningful, because we are recording, not only recording myself, but also recording China.
I'm almost done, but I want to tell a short story.
I remember that in February 2020, the British government advised all British people living in China to return home immediately.
As soon as I saw the notice, I knew that I would not return to China.
Because I have been in China for so many years, I am very confident in China and I know that the government can deal with this problem well.
But I have to call my parents so that they don't have to worry about me, so I called them. I didn't even say when they answered the phone. They first said that you should stay in China.
Why do they say that?
Because they have been to China, they have seen how things are going here, and they have no doubt that China is capable of handling this problem.
But not all people can come to China to personally feel the capabilities of this country and people.
Of course, I can go out and say "China is capable, don't worry", but it is better to show you the daily life in China and let the happiness and smile of the Chinese people answer. Thank you!
