Hurkacz, seeded No.1, upheld the logic against Iberia, seeded No.2 and recent Olympic bronze medalist, after a performance that was generally under control despite a difficult start.

Thus, the Polish giant (1m96), who notably distinguished himself this year by beating Roger Federer in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, was broken in the third game and found himself led 4-2 by Carreno.

But he then won three consecutive games to get back to front (5-4).

The two players finally had to decide in the tie-break, and after leading 2-1, the Spaniard collapsed, leaving Hurkacz to win easily (7-2).

The Pole continued his momentum by breaking in the first game of the second set, even if Carreno reacted in stride to equalize at 1-1.

But Hurkacz again seized his opponent's throw-in in the seventh game (4-3) and then quietly went to the final victory in the Moselle event after 1h20 of play (6-3).

The Pole, who had approached the World Top 10 in July (11th), magnificently concluded his great week in Metz where he successively beat the French Lucas Pouille, the former world No. 1 Andy Murray, the German Peter Gojowczyk and finally Carreno Busta, without losing a single set.
