In the night from Saturday to Sunday, urban violence broke out in several districts of Amiens, in the Somme.

Police officers were notably attacked by individuals using fireworks mortars, we learned from the prefecture on Sunday.

According to the authorities, it all started with an intervention by the police for vehicles set on fire on the public highway, around 10 p.m., in the district of Amiens north.

According to the prefecture of the Somme, "on their arrival, the police were then subjected to mortar fire".

Similar facts were also observed in other working-class neighborhoods, in Etouvie and in the south-east of the city.

A CRS company in reinforcement for the night from Sunday to Monday

Most of the police force in the area was mobilized in Amiens North, "where a window of the town hall of the area was broken", the authorities assure.

Reinforcements were also dispatched from Lille and Lens to be redeployed in the three neighborhoods affected by the violence.

The police presence will be further reinforced during the night from Sunday to Monday with the arrival of a CRS company and an intervention unit specializing in urban violence.

The police were able to arrest a man in the south-eastern district, suspected of having set fire to garbage cans and fired mortars against the police.

No injuries were to be deplored, except for a police officer from the Amiens BAC, burned in his hand by a tear gas grenade that he was going to send in response to mortar fire.
