The Marvel superhero film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" retained the lead at the North American box office for a fourth consecutive week, according to provisional figures released Sunday by the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

The latest subsidiary of the entertainment giant Disney, "Shang-Chi" can boast of having garnered nearly $ 13.3 million in revenue from Friday to Sunday, and more than $ 196 million since its release on September 3 in the USA.

The film, set in an imaginary China mixing gigantic creatures, mysticism and kung fu, is the first of Marvel studios to have an Asian director (Destin Daniel Cretton) and a cast also dominated by Asian stars, led by Chinese Canadian Simu Liu.

The second place in the standings is occupied by a new entrant, "Dear Evan Hansen".

This dramatic musical features Evan, a high school student suffering from social anxiety, whose life is turned upside down after the suicide of one of his classmates.

For its first week of operation, the film grossed $ 7.6 million.

A rather complex creation around suicide, adolescence and social norms, "Dear Evan Hansen", was originally a musical brought to the stage in 2015.

Ben Platt, who played Evan Hansen in the 2015 musical, resumes his role on the big screen at the age of 27, four years after receiving the trophy for Best Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards.

The action comedy "Free Guy" has fallen to third place in the charts for its seventh week on screens with $ 4.1 million, for just over 114 million since its release.

The horror film "Candyman" remained stable at number four for its fifth week in theaters.

The Universal-produced remake of the famous 1992 opus has raised $ 2.5 million (56.8 million since its release).

For its second week of operation "Cry Macho", the latest opus directed by Clint Eastwood, fell from third to fifth place with $ 2.1 million.

The 91-year-old American actor returns to the westerns that made him famous and plays a former rodeo champion, Mike Milo, in charge of a final mission.

Here is the rest of the top 10:

6 - "Jungle Cruise" ($ 1.7 million)
