In total, this is a distance of just over a mile from Munkedal towards the sea.

Both the county administrative board and the municipality and local companies are involved in improving the possibility for salmon and salmon trout to migrate up along the Örekilsälven and Munkedalsälven rivers.

On the one hand, larger boulders are laid out in the river where the salmon can rest behind when it is on its way up the river.

On the one hand, gravel beds are created so smaller fish can be safe when there is less water in the river.

New nature reserve

Another project is to create a new nature reserve from the estuary in Gullmarsfjorden up to Kärnsjön.

That project has recently been launched and preparations are being made to submit an application to the Environmental Court.

What is needed is, among other things, a permit for water activities and that decision must be made by Land and the Environmental Court.

- I start from a positive decision in court, says Daniel Johansson, at the unit for water and fish projects at the county administrative board in Västra Götaland, to the newspaper Bohusläningen.

In the clip, you hear the environmental manager Ulf Johannesson about what to do in the river outside the mill in Munkedal.
