Many have had to wait for their operations during the pandemic, but now Karolinska University Hospital in both Solna and Huddinge wants to catch up.

Before the summer, 250 extra operations were performed over five weeks and now 1,000 operations are to be performed in 10 weeks, mainly evenings and Saturdays.

According to the hospital management, they will really catch up if these operations are carried out according to plan.

Biggest need first

It is the responsible operations managers who have made the prioritization of patients and the patients in the queue with the greatest need are operated on first.

The staff has signed up voluntarily, but there are concerns that staff may be burnt out, reports Swedish Radio P4 Stockholm.

The first major surgery Saturday will be September 25, when five operating theaters in Solna and two in Huddinge will be staffed for 13 and 6 patients, respectively.
