The Yomiuri Shimbun reported that former secretary general Sanae Takaichi Sanae, who is running for president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to elect the next Japanese prime minister, said South Korea "will not build any more structures" on Dokdo, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

Former Secretary General Takaichi said this at an online meeting with the Hyogo Prefecture Council of Japan yesterday (25th).

Even though the Japanese government has no means to prevent the installation of additional structures on Dokdo, which is effectively controlled by South Korea, the remark was made with the intention of gathering supporters ahead of the LDP's election on the 29th.

Former Prime Minister Takaichi Takaichi, who is known to be backed by former Prime Minister Abe in this election, is considered a far-right figure.

Even after taking office as prime minister, he has repeatedly expressed his intention to continue visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, where Class A war criminals of the Pacific War were enshrined.

Every year, Takaichi visited Yasukuni Shrine on the day the Pacific War ended (August 15) and during the spring and autumn festivals.
