• Municipal La Mercè of the 'bottles'

The main festival in Barcelona had its particular alternative 'correfoc', much more violent, during the 'bottle' that once again brought together thousands of people in Plaza de España and Avenida de María Cristina last morning. If the one that the Diables groups celebrate within the traditional acts of La Mercè brought together a more familiar audience this Friday afternoon, a few hours later, at dawn, groups of violent people, many of them young, caused serious altercations before the Guard Urbana and the Mossos d'Esquadra when they went to dissolve this concentration of leisure in Montjuïc.

According to the Barcelona City Council, there are 20 arrested for these altercations in addition to 43 injured treated, three of them very serious. There were also 13 people who were stabbed during the rally. In total it is estimated that some 40,000 people attended this 'macro-bottle'. The deputy mayor of the Barcelona City Council, Albert Batlle, defended the police force but that the situation was difficult to control: "The eruption of the La Palma volcano could be foreseen but it could not be avoided".

It was a much more massive gathering than the one that brought together some 15,000 people the night before on the same stage. The police presence made it impossible to cut Plaza España, so many began to spread out around the area near Fora de Barcelona, the Font Màgica and the National Museum of Catalonia. Apart from crowds and people without a mask while dancing or doing other forms of socializing, there were no excessive incidents, except for a fight, in which a person had to be treated for cuts, presumably with a knife, or theft of mobile phones.

However, as the night passed and the intake of alcohol, some people began to cause vandalism such as climbing on cranes, breaking street furniture to use as a bar and thus jumping or even breaking some glass in the Fira de Barcelona building.

Everything changed when close to the Urban Guard ordered at dawn that the area should be vacated and that is when there were clashes.

Groups of violent men began to throw bottles and other objects at the agents.

They also started using containers as barricades and setting them on fire.

The flames spread to trees and some cars that were burned.

Agents began charging to allow firefighters to come to put out the flames.

Several detainees and numerous injuries were also registered, including a dozen agents according to police unions.

The incidents spread throughout the area and some buildings were attacked, such as the one in Fira, which was severely damaged, as well as some portals.

There have also been several complaints of thefts, injuries, damage to police vehicles and vandalism in urban furniture.

The councilor of the PP in the Barcelona City Council Óscar Ramírez Lara, assured that these altercations are "street terrorism: attacks on the police, assault on the police station, destruction and burning of vehicles ..." and wondered where are Ada Colau and the government of the Barcelona City Council?
