The head of the Plastic Surgery Division at the Emirates Medical Association, Dr. Zuhair Al Fardan, confirmed that the cosmetic sector in the country witnessed an increase of up to 30% in cosmetic operations, after the country entered the stage of recovery from the “Covid-19” pandemic, compared to the same periods in previous years.

He attributed this increase to not traveling, working remotely, in addition to wearing masks, which contributed to the rise in the percentage of cosmetic operations for the face and nose, pointing out that the current stage is witnessing an increase in liposuction, body sculpting, skin care, and skin sagging, as a result of the length of the closure period. And the isolation experienced by people in different countries of the world due to the “Corona” pandemic.

Al-Fardan said in a press statement on the sidelines of the Sixth Middle East International Conference and Exhibition for Dermatology and Cosmetic "Midam", which kicked off in Dubai the day before yesterday, in the presence of 1,500 male and female doctors from 41 countries, that the output of medical tourism in the country amounts to nearly one billion dirhams annually. The contribution of the cosmetic sector is about 50%, thanks to the presence of a distinguished elite of plastic surgeons in the country, in addition to the latest medical equipment.

Also, the prices of operations are very acceptable compared to European countries.

Regarding the number of cosmetic surgeries that are carried out in the country annually, he stated that there is no statistical record of the quality and details of the operations, especially since most of them are performed in the private sector.

He explained that the country's recovery from the epidemic, and Dubai's openness to the outside world, led to patients from different countries of the world seeking medical tourism, especially plastic surgery.

Al-Fardan stated that the UAE is one of the countries in the world with the lowest records of medical errors, and that the majority of complaints submitted against doctors or medical centers working in the cosmetic sector do not include a medical error, but is merely an expression of dissatisfaction with the results of the operation.

He pointed to the recent emergence of a negative phenomenon in social media, which is the media pages of cosmetic experts, which are run by people who are not experts and do not have information about plastic surgeries.

There are also abuses in some pages to discredit a doctor or clinic without taking into account that this affects the reputation of the Emirates medical and medical tourism in it.

He said that the Emirates Plastic Surgery Division is about to launch its own web pages, to give correct information about plastic surgeries, centers and doctors.

He appealed to members of society, especially girls, not to rush behind the fabricated advertisements and advertisements published by social networking sites for celebrities.

• Not traveling and working remotely are the main reasons for the increase in plastic surgery.

• One billion dirhams annually, the output of medical tourism in the country.
