A 19-year-old young man was arrested Thursday in Grenoble (Isère), after a police check which degenerated in Echirolles.

At around 10:45 am, two municipal officers on patrol intercepted two scooters traveling on a pedestrian lane, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes.

One of the pilots then deliberately charged at an official, hitting him violently and causing him to fall to the ground.

The police were then reportedly stoned by individuals from the neighborhood, forcing the national police to come in as reinforcements.

The injured policeman suffers from a double broken leg, bruises and head trauma.

He was taken care of by the firefighters and then hospitalized at the CHU Grenoble Alpes.

For now, we do not yet know his total incapacity for work.

The suspect already known to justice

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the departmental security which must question witnesses and identify the passenger of the scooter, on the run.

The driver was taken into custody.

He is already known to the justice services, explains the deputy prosecutor of the Republic of Grenoble, Boris Duffau.

"He has already been sentenced by the children's court and the Grenoble criminal court in 2021, in particular for acts of violence against a person holding public authority, contempt and refusal to comply," said the magistrate according to our colleagues.
