Xinhua News Agency, Washington, September 23 (Reporter Liu Pinran) According to US media reports on the 23rd, the US special envoy for Haiti, Daniel Foote criticized the US government's decision to repatriate Haitian refugees as "inhumane" and submitted his resignation to Secretary of State Blincoln.

American media published Foote's letter of resignation to Blinken on the 22nd.

Foote stated in the letter that he immediately resigned from the post of special envoy for Haiti and that he was unwilling to be connected with the "inhumane and counterproductive decision" of the United States to repatriate thousands of Haitian refugees and illegal immigrants to Haiti.

Foote said that the U.S. policy toward Haiti was "seriously flawed," and his proposal was "ignored and rejected."

US State Department spokesperson Price confirmed Foote's resignation in a statement on the 23rd, stating that Foote's claim that his proposal was ignored is completely wrong.

According to information on the website of the US State Department, Foote is a senior diplomat who served as the US ambassador to Zambia. Since July this year, he has served as the US special envoy for Haiti.

Due to earthquakes, turmoil, extreme poverty and other reasons, a large number of Haitians recently arrived in Del Rio, a small town in southwest Texas in the United States, seeking to apply for asylum in the United States.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees issued a statement on the 21st, expressing shock at the situation of refugees stranded in the border areas of Texas and the mass deportation of asylum applicants in the United States, calling on the US government to protect the rights of asylum applicants in accordance with international standards.
