Last Tuesday, the Egyptian citizen Ibn Nuba, Ahmed Idris, the owner and implementer of the idea of encrypting wireless communications in the October 1973 war in the Nubian language, passed away at the age of 84, and he kept the secret of encryption for 40 years, believing in his duty to maintain the secret even after the end of the war .

The idea of developing an impenetrable formula preoccupied the Egyptian leadership after the 1967 war and during the war of attrition, and Ahmed Idris’ idea came in parallel with other ideas that came out of the traditional framework to achieve victory, such as the demolition of the Bar Lev line with water, according to experts and followers.

Before his departure, Ahmed Idris told the story of the code to the Egyptian channel Extra News, where he said that President Sadat, three months after taking power, informed him of the Israeli efforts to break the Egyptian code, so he asked them to find a solution to this problem. The problem, so I intervened by saying that the solution is simple, which is to use the Nubian language.

Idris added that his commander asked him about his idea precisely, and he replied that the Nubian dialect is an unwritten dialect, and if the transmission and reception were done in Nubian, there would be no way to decipher the code.

Idris added that he was surprised a few days after the proposal, in the presence of the brigade commander, with a captain and a guard, as they summoned him and they had clamps that were placed in his hands, arrested him, and took him from Abu Sweir in Ismailia to an official building he did not know, which later turned out to be the Presidency of the Republic building, where they left it for a period An hour and a half was like three years for him, after which President Anwar Sadat appeared.

Idris noted that Sadat, as originally a signal officer, understood the idea of the Nubian code simply and easily, and that after Idris had finished explaining the idea, Sadat responded briefly, “Hamshi’s salvation is yours,” and implement your idea.

He asked him to hide the idea even from the closest people to him, and threatened that if the idea leaked, he would consider him the first person responsible, and threatened that if that happened, he would hit him with fire.

Idris added that upon his return, he found a letter from the leadership inviting him to attend with all his duties to the leadership, where stations named after Nubian names were made, and a Nubian recruit was placed at each station, and this situation continued until the end of the October 1973 war.

Days after the proposal, he was surprised, in the presence of the brigade commander, with a captain and a guard, who summoned him and with clamps that were placed in his hands, arrested him, and took him from Abu Suwayr in Ismailia to an official building he did not know, which turned out to be the Presidency of the Republic building.
