Following Brexit, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly emphasized the need for a free trade agreement with the United States.

An agreement would mean lower fees, which in turn would lead to increased exchange between the countries.

When the Prime Minister visited the White House on Tuesday, many people therefore believed that trade would be at the top of the world leaders' agenda.

However, Joe Biden gave a different picture when he met the press before the meeting.

- We will discuss it a bit.

We will have to work through that, said the president.

"Americans are tough negotiators"

Earlier this week, Johnson also gave the impression that the negotiations encountered a patrol.

- Want want an agreement, but then we want a good agreement.

Americans are hard negotiators, Johnson said.

At the same time, the countries have achieved some success in terms of trade, according to Johnson.

These include exports of British meat and whiskey as well as aircraft manufacturing, the Prime Minister told Sky News.

May enter into agreements with Canada and Mexico

Johnson has previously had his sights set on his own free trade agreement with only the United States, but according to sources to the BBC, the negotiations are instead moving towards another alternative.

The United Kingdom could be part of the existing agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.

- The only question is whether the United States is ready.

The ball is in their half, says a source with insight into the British government to the BBC.
