Every year, laureates are nominated from different continents and it is the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic development and the opportunities for international travel that means that the 2021 laureates will receive the prizes in their home countries, says Vidar Helgesen, CEO of the Nobel Foundation, in a comment.
This year's Nobel Celebration will be a mix of digital and physical events.
The prize winners receive the prizes in their home countries, and this will be woven together with a ceremony in Stockholm where "hopefully" local audiences will be present.
According to the Nobel Foundation, the Norwegian Nobel Committee is still open to the possibility of receiving prize winners.
