Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Iran and Saudi Arabia exchanged messages at appropriate levels after the stability of the government of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi.

He added that the negotiations between the two countries did not stop, as talks he described as good took place between the two parties on bilateral issues during the past months.

He stressed that the talks on Gulf security have made very serious progress, explaining that Iran and Saudi Arabia can build strong and good relations.

Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement to the official IRNA news agency on Thursday that there were good talks on bilateral issues between the two countries.

"We had several rounds of talks with the Saudi government in Baghdad over the past few months," he added.


On Wednesday evening, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz said that his country hopes for tangible results of the initial talks with Iran to build confidence.

This was the first time it was officially revealed that direct official talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran had been held since the severing of relations between them in 2016, after protesters attacked the Saudi embassy and consulate in Iran, condemning Riyadh's execution of the Shiite cleric, Nimr al-Nimr, on charges of terrorism.
