These are the last days of the legislative campaign in Germany.

The SPD, the Social Democratic Party, leads the race in the polls ahead of the conservatives of the CDU.

Their candidate, Olaf Scholtz hopes to form a coalition with The Greens.

Even though 40% of German voters still don't know who they're going to vote for, one thing is certain: Environmentalists should play a key role in forming a coalition government.

In the middle of a stage in the form of a bandstand, on a synthetic grass carpet, Robert Habeck, the co-president of the Greens announces a new political era to the few hundred people, activists or sympathizers of the environmental party who came to the to listen.

Activists convinced by an SPD-Greens alliance

In the audience, Michael Basten nods.

He is convinced: The Greens will play an important role in the next government.

“

We have the opportunity to tackle many issues, such as social problems, but also global warming, which requires answers now and not in five or ten years.

And all this, I think it will be more easily achievable with the SPD than with the Conservatives.

But the more votes the party gets, the more achievable it will be.

 "

An analysis shared by Timon Marland, Secretary General of the Young Socialists of Cologne: “

Many points of our programs are similar.

I think that The Greens are a natural partner in making progress on social issues or on the climate.

I have the feeling that they are the best partners we can have.

 "

However, in view of the investigations, a third party will undoubtedly be needed to form a coalition.

The liberals of the FDP or the left Die Linke are regularly mentioned.

The question divides the SPD as at The Greens.
