• The Voies Lyonnaises is a cycle network that will cross all the regions of Greater Lyon.

  • Its 13 lines, which will gradually open from 2022 to 2030, are intended to be a safe and comfortable alternative to the car.

  • The metropolis thus hopes to triple bicycle users by 2026 for smoother and healthier urban traffic.

Crisscrossed with multicolored lines, the map of the future Voies Lyonnaises appears to both shrink and enlarge Greater Lyon.

To think that in 2030 we will be able to pedal from Quincieux to Givors (56 km) or from Jonage to Saint-Genis-Laval (37 km), is a dream of green mobility displayed by Bruno Bernard this Wednesday morning, the day after his presentation of the future metro.

"Les Voies lyonnaises, in 2030, there will be 13 lines, 355 km of road network (including 250 from 2026), which will pass through all the metropolitan areas and will serve 49 of its 59 municipalities", details the president of the metropolis of Lyon .

The first lines will be open in 2022, with a budget of 100 million euros.

A healthier, more secure network

The project complies with the elected representative's green mobility policy: encouraging the cycling alternative is "a question of combating pollution, but also of public space: we need to appease the city, by offering alternatives. to the car ”. Bruno Bernard adds the savings made with soft mobility, and their beneficial effect on health. “Our goal is to triple the number of bicycle trips by 2026.” Ambitious but not unrealistic, since bicycle users have increased by 14% each year for ten years.

The Voies lyonnaises are also aimed at those who still hesitate to climb into the saddle for fear of danger.

Safety is at the heart of the project, assures Fabien Bagnon, deputy vice-president for roads and active mobility: “The network is wide, from 3 to 4 m, it is clearly separated from the road, in continuity with specific installations. at each crossroads to secure the passages.

And it has its own very readable signage.

"

Worried about having your bike stolen?

“We are working on a strategy that will be unveiled in December, specifies Bruno Bernard, to go from 1,500 secure parking lots to 15,000 by 2026.” The fear of handlebar drivers?

"There will be training to teach good cycling, where there is still room for improvement ..."

Move smoothly

The new sections will not narrow the roadways, to ensure the continuity and fluidity of the traffic lanes, in agreement with the municipalities which have actively participated in the layout of the lines. “Les Voies Lyonnaises has been an important consultation for a year with the municipalities, but also with user associations. There are still points to be decided on places of passage, in particular on Champagne-au-Mont-d'Or and on line 4, which will link Lissieu to Villeurbanne. "

The digital simulations of the tracks show a healthier, greener urban space, which is integrated into the landscape - the new lines will logically be vegetated.

And after 2030?

Like the Roman roads of antiquity, from which they are inspired, they want to rally other territories: the metropolis will soon present its project to the neighboring communities of the Rhône and the Ain to allow “a cycle of continuity between our territories”.

As long as it rolls.
