The gendarmes of the Menton search brigade, in collaboration with the Italian riflemen as well as the Monegasque police, dismantled a network of ten burglars, who would be involved in about fifteen cases in the Paca region.

The overall damage amounts to 1.6 million euros, said the gendarmerie in a press release.

On September 12 and 13, a police operation was carried out in Italy, Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes.

The main defendant and his companion were arrested in Trieste in Italy, under a European arrest warrant, "while preparing to cross the Slovenian border", as well as eight other people, add the gendarmes.

Of the ten people arrested, five of them were brought to Nice on September 16.

The couple, arrested in Italy, were imprisoned before their extradition.

The last accused, who was not at his home, is the subject of a search warrant.

The team, commanded by a Dutchman of Serbian origin, still used the “same operating method consisting in carrying out long scouting of opulent villas before entering the homes at night in the presence of the occupants”, the statement said.

During the searches, more than 100,000 euros were seized, as well as luxury watches, jewelry, leather goods, a beacon jammer, a shotgun and its ammunition, according to the gendarmes.
