The State Department spoke about the representation of the Taliban in the UN

“With regard to the Afghan request for accreditation, [the UN] has an accreditation committee,” TASS quoted a representative as saying at a briefing on US participation in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (GA).

She noted that the United States is on the committee, but it will take time to make a decision.

Earlier, the Taliban appealed to the UN and expressed their intention to speak during the high-level week of the General Assembly.
