The information was first reported by state television, without much detail, followed by a statement from Mohamed al-Faki Suleiman, the spokesperson for the Sovereignty Council, the body leading the transition.

A reassuring statement: “

Everything is under control and the revolution is victorious.

 "

According to a member of this Council, the putschists - armored units of the Sudanese army - tried Tuesday morning to take control of several bridges connecting Khartoum and Omdurman, with the aim of seizing state media premises.

This axis between the capital and its twin city, located on the other bank of the Nile, is known to be strategic.

The last of these armored units would have surrendered at the end of the morning.

Khartoum therefore accuses relatives

of former President Omar al-Bashir

of being behind this attempt and announces the arrests of “officers”, but also of “civilians”, according to Information Minister Hamza Baloul.

The presidency of the Sudanese Council of Ministers explains having had information on this coup attempt on Monday, which would have enabled him to thwart it.

A meeting of security forces is currently underway in Khartoum.

The Sudanese authorities have already deplored several attempts at overthrow since the revolution, all attributed to supporters of the old regime.
