The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said - in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly today, Tuesday - that one of his country's priorities is to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, recalling Doha's position on a number of regional and international issues, and stressing the centrality of the Palestinian cause.

He considered that Qatar's bet on international institutions is a "strategic bet", noting that the relations between Doha and those institutions have been characterized by close cooperation during the past five decades.

"We are pleased that Doha is the capital of international multilateral action in our region," he added, adding that Qatar is looking forward to opening the "United Nations House" in Doha soon.

On the Palestinian issue, he said that the issue of deporting the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem came to confirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause, calling on the international community to achieve a comprehensive and just peaceful settlement of the issue.

He pointed out that this year witnessed numerous Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and against Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Regarding the developments in Afghanistan, the Emir of Qatar said that his country has spared no effort to evacuate thousands of people from Afghanistan as a "humanitarian duty", and stressed that it will continue, in coordination with its partners, to do everything it can to preserve the tangible gains made in Doha.
