On August 16, a US cargo plane took off from Kabul Airport in chaotic forms.

Hundreds of people were on the runway, many of them running alongside the plane in hopes of getting on board.

Others clung to the outside of the hull.

The scene became a symbol of the Afghans' escape from the Taliban, but many questions remain about what really happened.

The incident is still being investigated by the US Air Force.

What is clear, however, is that several people died when the plane took off.

"The United States must do us justice"

One of the victims was 24-year-old dentist Fida Mohammed.

Fida's father, Palinda Mohammed, cries when he shows pictures of his son.

- We ask the United States for justice.

They must do us justice.

I have no job and have to take care of 14 family members.

How should I be able to pay off his student loan ?, he says to AP.

According to Palinda, Fida had climbed into the wheelhouse on the plane.

Why he still does not know.

Part of him feels guilty because he suspects that Fida wanted to leave the country for financial reasons.

The father took out a loan for his son's wedding last year, and Fida wanted to pay it back.

Found on rooftops

Shortly after Fida climbed onto the plane, Abdullah Waiz heard a bang in his house next to the airport.

At first he thought it was an explosion, but when he ran out he saw the neighbors gesturing towards the roof.

- What I saw when I got up on the roof was awful.

Two young men had fallen off the plane.

One of the men who landed on Abdullah's roof was later identified as Fida Mohammed, Palinda's son, writes AP.

A note with his father's name and number was found in his pocket.

Appealed to his brother to stay

There was also 19-year-old Zaki Anwari at the airport.

He was there with his cousin who had worked for an American company.

The idea was that the cousin would try to get in while Zaki waited in the car, but that did not happen, says his older brother Zakir.

When Zaki called Zakir, he was already at the airport.

- He said that he was close to the plane and had to put down his phone if he was allowed to come, Zakir says to AP.

Zakir tells and both he and the brothers' mother tried to stop Zaki from getting on the plane.

Witnesses would later tell the family that Zaki tried to catch up with the plane when he fell and was crushed under the wheel.

- Just a quarter of an hour after we hung up, someone else called from Zaki's phone and told him he was dead, Zakir says.
