21 September 2021 "After a very long and in-depth reflection, I came to the painful decision to leave the party in which I was elected". Thus in a note the MEP Francesca Donato announces her exit from the League.

"My choice came after months in which the values in which I firmly believe, those of equality, individual freedom and human dignity, have been trampled more and more by the measures taken by the national government, of which the League is a part. the reassurances and internal battles of our leader, liberticidal and discriminatory decrees have passed which, in my opinion, are incompatible with the fundamental principles of our system ", continues Donato.

"Having acknowledged the choice of the Secretary to remain in this government whatever act it performs, also taken in consideration of the prevailing will of the ministers and governors of the League in this sense, I believe that today it is a fact of coherence with my values and respect for my constituents but also for my party colleagues, take a step back and stop being part of it ", adds the MEP.

Regarding his position, the MEP makes it known that he will remain a member of the Identity and Democracy group in the European Parliament "but I will remain out of other party positions in order to be able to carry out my political role in defense of the minority of Italians with maximum independence and under my personal responsibility. today labeled as "No-vax", severely discriminated against and attacked in our country, and by all those who still believe in the values of our Republican Constitution, which focus on respect for human rights for all citizens ".

In an interview with "la Repubblica", the MEP observes how the critical line against the government's measures "while shared by a large part of the base has become a minority: the position of the ministers, with Giorgetti, and of the governors prevails. I find myself more at ease and I take everyone away from the embarrassment ". And when asked why he leaves the League, Donato replies: "I made a long and painful reflection. I believe in individual freedom and in the principle of self-determination of health choices. Mandatory principles that this government is violating. I can no longer be in a party. which supports the Draghi executive ".

For Donato, Salvini "is in a delicate position. He represents a party with different souls, but there is a prevalence of the line of regional presidents and ministers, headed by Giorgetti, in favor of the choices of the Draghi government - he says - the secretary tried to give strength to those like me who judge that the decisions on the Green pass are disproportionate and inadequate. Salvini had to mediate, but at a certain point he stopped, I do not judge his work ". Are you saying the leader ended up in the minority? "Well, at least within the party secretariat it seems to be so." Donato then explains: "I intend to remain independent, as long as there is the Covid emergency, then we'll see. FdI? Giorgia Meloni must be acknowledged for having shown courage and foresight by not joining the government ...".

Salvini: I greet those who go away

Do you have fears for the unity of the party? "Absolutely not", and "who goes, thank him, greet him and best wishes". Lega, Fedriga: there is no room for No-vax

"We must not translate the epidemic into a fight between gangs. We must convince citizens to get vaccinated, but without condemning those who are afraid, otherwise we risk crushing them towards the No-vax side. In the first party of Italy it is normal that there are different currents, but within the League there is no room for the No-vax ".

Massimiliano Fedriga comments on the exit from the League of the MEP on Radio Capital. The president of Friuli Venezia-Giulia and of the Conference of Regions clarifies: "They are not due to the obligation to vaccinate, it could have the opposite effect. With the obligation for health professionals we have not had 100% of the vaccinated. It is a tool simple, but the result is not achieved. We must not hide what the No-vax say, we must deny them ".
