The first video of the 8 killed in a shooting at a Russian university

An armed student opened fire at a university in the Russian city of Perm on Monday, killing eight people and wounding 24 others, one of whom is in serious condition, law enforcement authorities said.

A spokesman for the university and the police said the gunman was arrested shortly after the incident at Perm University, about 1,300 km east of Moscow.

Video footage published by local media showed students jumping from the windows of the first floor to escape the building.

The students appeared inside the university as they put chairs and tables behind the doors, where they were asked to lock themselves inside the classrooms.

The lecturers said they locked themselves inside their offices to take cover from the man, who was wearing a mask.

The Russian Investigative Committee, which is responsible for investigations into major crimes, said the gunman was a university student.

The motive for the attack was not known, and an investigation was launched into the incident.

According to Russian media reports, the shooter was an 18-year-old university student who was armed.

Shortly before the attack, the attacker posted a post on social media in which he talked about how he obtained the information needed to obtain a weapon and legally purchase a weapon.
